The Crook County Court will consider a proposed resolution of litigation filed by Shotgun Ranch, LLC against Crook County.  Shotgun Ranch, LLC claims that through the process of legalizing Shotgun Rd (which occurred in 2002) Crook County "took" the land comprising the road and, therefore, owes compensation.  The amount claimed as compensation is $1,000,000.00, together with attorney's fees (estimated at several hundred thousand dollars).

Shotgun Ranch, LLC has offered to settle its claims against Crook County.  The settlement would require Crook County to allow the gating of Shotgun Rd between Pine Creek Rd and Drake Creek Rd.  The gate would be locked with a combination lock and Crook County would have the combination in order to open the gate.  Under the settlement, emergency services, the historical society (on occasion) and the general public during detours due to slides or other obstructions on Paulina Highway would be allowed to use the gated portion of Shotgun Rd.  At all other times the roads would be closed.
