Healthy Workplace- general Information

Many employers are turning to worksite wellness programs to help employees adopt healthier lifestyles and lower their risk of developing chronic disease.

Crook County Public Health wants to support employee and organizational health and wellness by providing resources, strategies, and tools to community partners to build, sustain, and promote healthy employees and employers in Crook County. The following resources include information on how to start a wellness team, sample policies, and suggestions for low-cost activities that will promote health at your workplace and more. Please let us know how we can assist you in addressing your worksite health promotion needs.

Worksite wellness programs benefit employers by:

  • Decreasing health care costs
  • Reducing absenteeism
  • Increasing productivity
  • Decreasing workers' compensation and disability claims
  • Improving morale and retention of valued staff.

Some examples of wellness education and activities include:

  • Promoting physical activity breaks, stair usage and walking groups.
  • Becoming a tobacco-free worksite.
  • Allowing flexible work schedules to give employees time to exercise.
  • Providing tobacco cessation benefits to your employees.
  • Offering fitness classes and equipment on-site.
  • Offering healthy foods and beverages at meetings, in cafeterias and in vending machines.
  • Promoting free and low-cost recreation activities.
  • Promoting farmers markets and community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs.
  • Providing private rooms and flexible scheduling for breast feeding, milk pumping and on-site refrigerated storage.
